- Increase safety. A broken window is a safety concern for employees and customers. Boarding up the window conceals any rough or jagged edges and allows you to continue to stay open for business until the window can be fixed.
- Prevent further damage. In the case of extreme weather, boarding up your windows can prevent additional damage to the interior of your building. Boarded windows keep rain from soaking the floor and debris from blowing around the store.
- Provide security. A broken window is essentially an unlocked entrance to your building and puts your business at risk for theft. While not as secure as glass windows, boarded windows prevent intruders from entering your business while you are waiting for the window to be repaired or replaced. This doesn’t just apply to retail stores, but office buildings, medical complexes and more, as thieves are indiscriminate.
- Increase insurance eligibility. Many insurance companies will cover the initial damage from a storm or vandalism but will not pay for further damage that could have been prevented by boarding up a window. In some cases, insurance providers even require that a window be boarded up in a timely fashion to pay out on your claim.
- Reduce liability. When you have a broken window in your building, you are responsible should a patron (or an intruder) be injured from the glass. Boarding up the window reduces your potential to be held liable for any injuries.
