Single Hung Windows

Single hung windows are one of the most common types of windows found on homes throughout the US. This enduring popularity has to do with the fact that single hung windows are usually cheaper and easier to install and maintain than other types of windows.

Single and double hung windows appear very similar to each other. In fact, many window manufacturers offer the same window frames in both single and double hung varieties. The difference between the two mainly comes down to operation. On a single hung window, the top sash is fixed in place, and only the bottom sash can be operated. On a double hung window, both sashes are operable and able to be moved up and down.

The choice between single and double hung windows largely comes down to preference. Homeowners in colder climates may appreciate the fact that single hung windows are less susceptible to air leakage, making them ideal for standing up to winter weather.
