Easy Window Decorating Ideas

Happy holidays from True View! It’s the time of year when people share their joy by decorating their houses inside and out. The windows are a prime location for decorations, and you can use them as a canvas for your holiday spirit in countless ways. Here are a few of our favorites:

Lights. Holiday lights are the most popular home decoration this time of year! You can hang lights around the outside or inside of your windows depending on how you want to enjoy them; check the labels to ensure you are using the right type of lights. Hang them with plastic clips or hooks that can be easily removed to prevent damage to your window frames.

Wreaths. For a traditional look, hang wreaths on your windows this holiday season. Attach bows to your wreath, then wrap a ribbon around the top of the wreath. If you have double-hung windows, open the top sash and place the wreath outside of the windows. Hold on to the ribbon, then close the top sash and secure the ribbon with a pushpin, painter’s tape, or by tying a knot at the end.

Garland. Garland is another classic way to dress up your windows for the holidays. Drape the garland over a tension rod, plastic hooks, string, or fishing line. While garland can be heavy, do not place large nails or screws in your window frames to hold it up.

Ornaments. Another decorating option is to display ornaments in front of your window. Use a ribbon or fishing line to hang the ornaments from a curtain rod. Larger, colorful ornaments are good choices if you want them to be seen from the street.

Candles. First and foremost, know that we mean battery-operated candles and not live flames! Placing candles on windowsills is a peaceful way to share your joy with those who pass by your home.

Window boxes aren’t just for warm weather; they can be used in cold weather, too! Fill your window boxes with holiday greenery, pinecones, ribbons, or weather-resistant ornaments, and see your house come to life with holiday cheer.

Window Clings. Kids love window clings, and many options are available to make your home look festive. From fun holiday cartoons to intricate winter scene designs, you can find window clings matching your holiday decorating style.

While you’re decorating around your windows, take a moment to inspect them. If you feel any drafts, notice cracks or warping, or have trouble opening and closing them, it may be time to repair or replace them.
